The Lexus GS is a lineup of medium sized executive and sports cars traded by Lexus from 1993. It was designed to act as the missing link between LS and ES. The Lexus GS surfaced up in the market during 1993 in the Europe, U.S, and selected markets of Asia.
First Generation (1991-1996)
The first generation Lexus GS was prefaced in 1991. This was offered with two inline-6 powered editions for the Japanese automobile market, which included the 3.0V and 3.0Q.
The Aristo 3.0Q was featured with a 24-valve twin-turbo 2JZ-GTE engine that could produce 226 hp (169 kW), whereas the Aristo 3.0V packed with a 24-valve twin-turbo 2JZ-GTE engine could churn out 276 hp (205 kW) of power.
The twin-turbo engine was similar to the one found on Mk IV Toyota Supra (JZA80). During 1992, another model was designed with a 4.0Zi-Four V8 engine in the series of the Aristo. This V8 had been used in the 1st generation Toyota Crown Majesta and Lexus LS. At that time, it was equipped with only one engine known – the 2JZ-GE inline-6.
Second Generation (1997-2004)
The second generation Lexus GS was produced in the 1997 and formally introduced in 1998. The second generation was packed with a UZ-series V8 engine for delivering
• 310 ft-lb (420 N-m) of torque and
• 300 hp (224 kW) of power.
According to test results, the second generation models took about 5.4 seconds to reach the speed of 60 mph from a pit-stop. The GS 300 was provided and featured with a renewed edition of the earlier generation’s 3.0 L inline-6-cyinder engine that could churn out 225 ft-lbs (305 N-m) of torque and 228 hp (168 kW) of power.
The GS 300 required 7.6 seconds to reach 60 mph, and these two models were featured with a five-speed automatic transmission and steering wheel shift regulators, mounted on the steering wheel. No turbo versions were provided out elsewhere, except the Japanese market.
Third Generation (2005-present)
The 3rd generation pre-production version of Lexus GS was first introduced in 2004 at the Geneva Auto Show, whereas the production version was introduced in 2005 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The starting third generation models included
• the GS 300 (GRS190) along with a certified 3.0-liter 3GR-FSE V6 engine, and
• the GS 430 (UZS190) with a 4.3-liter 3UZ-FE V8 utilize in the earlier model.
The GS300 was featured with a D4 direct-injection fuel system in all the global markets except Singapore and some of the other Asian markets. The third generation version was included with a 3.0-liter engine, which was also seen on the Zero Toyota Crown and Toyota Mark X; these two engines were coupled with a six speed automatic sequential shift gearbox.
Coming to the interior, it was equipped with
• A black bird’s-eye maple wood trim and ash leather,
• black leather with and walnut trim, or
• brown bird’s-eye maple and cashmere leather trim.
Important traditional features incorporated were acoustic windshield, a water resistant front door glass, electro chromic auto-dimming rearview mirror.
